Multiplying by 8 corresponds to an increase of 700% and not 800%!!!

And this is very easy to understand:
– Multiplying by 1 = value does not change = increase of 0%.
– Multiplying by 2 = 2-fold increase = increase of 100%.
– Multiplying by 3 = 3-fold increase = increase of 200%.

– Multiplying by 8 = 8-fold increase = increase of 700%.

Mathematically, an increase expressed in percentage is:
Increase in % = 100*(final value-initial value)/(initial value)=100*(8-1)/1=700%

80 percent or 80 percents?

I’ve just thought of an analogy.
Percent is a bit like miles/hour, or kilometers/hour.
If I am walking briskly down the road I am walking at four miles/hour – not four miles/hours.

How much/many percent?

how much percent や how many percent という言い方はしないみたいです。 この場合は、what percentage of ~ が最も一般的みたいですが、what is the percentage of ~ とも言えるようです。

What percent/percentage of students in class wear/s glasses?

What percent of students in this class wear glasses?
= “What number of students per hundred students in this class wear glasses?”

How many per cent of students in this class wear glasses?
= “How many students per hundred in this class wear glasses?”

How many percents of students in this class wear glasses?

What percent of  = What number of で、How many per cent of students = How many students per hundred、さらに、How many percents of もありみたいです。

What is the percentage of
